The ECO4 scheme is the final part of an ongoing government initiated scheme to support low-income households and to create more energy efficient homes
ECO particularly aims to help vulnerable homes and property holders. It uses a whole house approach to lower fuel poverty via improved heating systems and insulation measures funded through the energy companies. It also encourages the installation of first time Central Heating and district heating connections.
ECO means the Energy Company Obligation, of which there have been four parts. It is a policy that aims to make homes warmer and households’ emissions lower, In other words, ECO is all about energy saving. We are currently in the ECO 4 stage
An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is a document that shows how energy-efficient a property is. It rates the property from A to G, where A is the most efficient and G is the least efficient. The EPC also provides recommendations on how to improve the energy efficiency and reduce the carbon emissions of the property.
The benefit of having a high EPC rating is that it can save money on energy bills, increase the value and attractiveness of the property, and help protect the environment.
If you are on qualifying benefits or on a low income and you’re a homeowner or a private tenant, you are likely to be eligible for support from energy suppliers via this scheme from April 2022.
If you are a landlord and your tenant claims benefits or is on a low income you may encourage them to apply.
If you’re not on benefits or a low income but your home is still energy inefficient, you might be eligible for the scheme through flexible eligibility (LAFlex) program that some councils participate in.
